How are they prepared?

Development plans are usually in a continuous process of preparation, adoption and then revision. They have to be kept up to date in order to respond to constantly changing factors such as housing growth, environmental protection etc.

Most new plans take existing plans as their base and then the local authority responsible for preparing a new plan takes into account changes in its area as well as the latest Government guidance.

At various stages in the preparation process, consultation will be carried out with the public, business groups and other interested organisations so that the plan is as responsive to their needs as possible.
