Background to the Pilot

Our aim is to achieve best value in the appeals process by ensuring that appeals are decided in an open, fair, impartial, professional and efficient manner.

Central Government published a Planning White Paper in the summer which set out proposals to make the appeals system more proportionate, efficient and customer focussed.  Currently the appeals process does not distinguish between different types and sizes of development.  Therefore an extension to a house can follow the same procedure as a large office building. 

Central Government are looking to introduce a more simplified approach that would help householder appellants by speeding up the process.  These guidance pages set out how we propose to pilot the service we intend to develop to meet this objective.
