Our shared aims

Ultimately the government is looking to set a target to decide 80% of householder appeals within 8 weeks.  To do this requires some changes not only to processes and systems but to the rules that determine the appeals process.  This will need changes to legislation, which will take some time to introduce.

However, even without these big changes to legislation, a number of significant improvements in the way the appeals process currently works can still be introduced as part of this Pilot, so as to reduce the time taken to decide a householder appeal.

We therefore propose to speed up the way householder appeals submitted via the ‘written representations’ method are dealt with by providing a 'fast track' process.  What this will mean for appellants is a significant reduction in the time it takes to receive a decision on their appeal to around 12 weeks.
