Making Plans: good practice in plan preparation and management

Makingplans is a guide to putting good development plans in place quickly by positive management of the process of preparing a plan that will do its job well.

The guide looks forward to the preparation of Local Development Frameworks as proposed in the Planning Green Paper, but many of the principles underlying the proposed changes reflect best practice and can be acted upon now.

  • Summary and Section 1: A guide to success
  • Section 2: Scope of the review
  • Section 3: The plan project
  • Section 4: The plan process
  • Section 5: Useful documents and acknowledgements

Throughout the guide the ways in which success can be achieved are described.

Two vital themes are – there has to be commitment to keep the plan up-to-date, and making a plan has to be seen as a project that requires good management with a project manager responsible for the overall process.
