Structure plans: guide to procedures

The Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions has prepared this booklet to help people understand the procedures which are followed in the preparation of structure plans. A second booklet is also available which deals with the procedures for local plans and unitary development plans (UDPs). These booklets replace the previous guidance provided in "Development Plans - what you need to know" (1996 revised edition).

The guidance provided in this booklet reflects the statutory provisions for the preparation of structure plans. It includes a Code of Practice covering the period from the deposit of a plan through to its adoption by the local planning authority and gives details of the opportunities which people have to make their views known at various stages of the structure plan preparation process..
