Finding cases

Aim

To help local authorities find appeals online quickly and easily.

Advice

  • Searching by Case Reference: The quickest way to find an appeal through the Search facility is to enter the final part of the case reference in the 'Case Ref' field (excluding any WF or NWF suffix) - for example, 2000907. Then click on 'Search for cases'. This should find the case every time, provided we have published it. If this does not work, please contact the Case Officer and ask them to ensure that the case has been published.

  • Searching by LPA: You can also search for all the appeals for a particular local authority. You don't need to put in the full name - just part should do. Then click on the 'LPA Finder' button, and the full title will be completed for you, or you will be presented with a list to select the relevant record. If you then click on the 'Search for cases' button, the system will list all appeals for that LPA. However, once there are more than 100 appeals on the system, you will also need to use another criteria to ensure that you get the result(s) you are after. You may, for example, use the 'Case Type' criteria, to say that you want all Planning appeals for that LPA. Or you could click on the 'More' button and then use the 'Status' criteria to say that you're interested in Completed appeals for the LPA.
