The Health and Safety Commission is responsible for health and safety regulation in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive and local government are the enforcing authorities who work in support of the commission.
The Health and Safety Executive’s mission is to protect people's health and safety by ensuring risks in and around the workplace are properly controlled.
The Health and Safety Executive look after health and safety in nuclear installations and mines, factories, farms, hospitals and schools, offshore gas and oil installations, the safety of the gas grid and the movement of dangerous goods and substances, and many other aspects of the protection both of workers and the public.
The Health and Safety Executive have been working on PADHI Plus, a national IT programme, making it possible for LPAs to generate the information received through consultation for themselves without the need to contact The Health and Safety Executive. The process has involved a number of training seminars for users, at present 30 of the 37 scheduled seminars have taken place with the remaining 7 to take place by March 2007.
