North East

The current RSS to 2016 is Regional Planning Guidance for the North East (RPG1) which was published in 2002. It became the RSS for the region in September 2004.

The North East Assembly is the Regional Planning Body for the North East and they took the leading role in preparing a draft revision of the RSS. This draft was submitted to the Government in June 2005. A 12-week public consultation gave the opportunity to put comments to an Independent Panel that lead an Examination in Public into the draft strategy in March 2006. The panel’s report was submitted to the Secretary of State on 20 July 2006 and was published on 4 August 2006.

The first consultation on the Secretary of State’s Proposed Changes to the Regional Spatial Strategy took place in the summer of 2007. Ministers considered the comments made and further changes have now been proposed.

Consultation on these further changes runs for eight weeks from 6 February to 2 April 2008. View further details of this consultation.
