The Planning Portal commissioned independent consultants Mott MacDonald to produce guidance on using CAD files and reviews of CAD viewing software currently in the marketplace. These are now available below.

CAD Guidance

These guidance notes advise on the production of electronic plot files of CAD drawings. This project follows from a study to investigate the suitability of different CAD file and plot file formats for submission of electronic documents via the Planning Portal website.

Review of CAD Viewers

This review investigated file viewing software, file formats and procedures to establish which are the most suitable for the Planning Portal’s purposes. Errors which occur when using viewing software have been identified and these should be considered when receiving, reviewing and plotting electronic drawing submissions.
