Do I need permission to work from home?

You do not necessarily need planning permission to work from home. However, the key test is whether the overall character of the dwelling will change as a result of the business.

You can find more information on working from home in our 'Do you need permission' section.

What are ‘Use Classes’ and what are the rules about change of use?

You will need planning permission for certain changes to the use of a property such as changing from a residential use to a business use.

However, it is possible to change use between some classes without having to make an application for planning permission.

We have more information on Use Classes in the 'Do you need permission' section of the site. This includes a table showing where you can move between uses without the need for planning permission.
