When you can appeal

Your council makes decisions about work on trees protected by preservation orders.

You can appeal if you applied to cut down or carry out work on a protected tree and:

  • you disagree with the decision
  • a decision was not made within 8 weeks

You can also appeal if you disagree with a tree replacement notice you’ve been given.

There’s no fee for appealing.

Deadline for appealing

You must appeal:

  • within 28 days of the date on the council’s decision notice
  • before the date the tree replacement notice comes into effect

There’s no deadline if you’re appealing because your application was not decided within 8 weeks.

When you can expect a decision

Once your appeal is validated, you’ll normally get a decision within 27 weeks.
