Before you start

Best practice

There are times when internet connections can break or other circumstances occur causing submissions to fail.  You are therefore strongly advised to:

  • Save a copy of your completed form before submission, and
  • Check the copy of the successful submission, that you can obtain from the on-screen receipt.

This will help to ensure the smooth running of your appeal and help identify any potential issues so they can be rectified.

Technical Compatibility (Online facilities) 

The compatibility matrix below shows the Platform/browser combinations and the extent to which they are compliant with out facilities. Document Viewer: Adobe Acrobat Version 6 or above, but we recommend at least Version 7. (The latest version can be downloaded free from the Adobe website - http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/.

Settings:

  • Your Internet browser must have JavaScript enabled, which is usually a default setting on your browser. 
  • If you have a pop-up blocker, you should set it to allow pop-ups from the site. 
  • Ensure that the URL for the Planning Portal is NOT added to your IE proxy server exceptions. 

Other computers, operating systems and browsers 

Although the Planning Inspectorate’s online service is designed and tested for use with the above operating systems/browsers, you may be able to access the services using other combinations.

If you cannot access our online service, you will need to submit your appeal by post. Contact our Customer Services Team on 0117 372 6372 or e-mail us at enquiries@pins.gsi.gov.uk to obtain a set of paper appeal forms.

Internet connection

We recommend the use of a broadband connection, particularly if you intend to submit or access documents.
