The first online application was submitted in May 2003. Now around 50 per cent of all applications are submitted online. This is more than 20,000 applications each month submitted via the Portal and the number continues to grow. There has also been a substantial investment by LPAs in technology to process online applications through the purchase of 1APP back-office connectors. This provides facilities for online payments and publishing applications on their websites for all to engage in the consultation process and increase awareness of development in local neighbourhoods and communities.
If you want to increase take-up of online applications we’d like to hear from you. By taking a quick look at your applications we can quickly understand who’s submitting what and encourage those coming via paper/post to use the online application service. We work to increase online take-up by targetting planning agents and professionals who still use paper to switch to submitting online. We are also increasing awareness of our services to encourage citizens to interact online.
We are currently working closely with several LPAs on a tailored communication campaign and we’d like to get other LPAs onboard and recognise your efforts to promote a preference for online applications.
