DoE 03/96 (3 April 1996)
This circular informs local authorities about the withdrawal of DoE circular 18/89 which asked authorities to maintain and publish information about unused and underused land which they own.
It also ends the requirement for specified local authorities to send the Secretary of State information about their holdings of unused and underused land.
The withdrawal results from a government consultation with local authorities on 'Deregulating Government - the First Steps' but does not affect the scheme whereby the public can request an authority to dispose of its holdings.
Nor does it reduce the need for local authorities to keep their property portfolios under review.
