The Planning Inspectorate is required to carry out the Examination of Local Plans (including the Mayor’s London Plan). Authorities are also able to request that the Inspectorate examine Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Charging Schedules and Neighbourhood Plans.
In addition to this examination function, the Inspectorate will be responsible for the Independent Investigation of the emerging Marine Plans.
The local plan sets planning policies in a local authority area.
The Community Infrastructure Levy is a new planning charge, introduced by the Planning Act 2008.
