The written procedure

With this type of appeal, The Planning Inspectorate only consider written evidence from the appellant, the local planning authority (LPA) and anyone else who, like you, has an interest in the appeal. The Planning Inspectorate cannot accept any form of taped evidence, as they cannot be sure that everyone involved has exactly the same version.

Appeals that are decided by the written procedure are governed by rules in 'Statutory Instrument 2000 No.1628'. The implementation of these rules is covered in detail by 'Circular 05/2000' from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).

In Wales, some of the rules are different. Please refer to the Planning Inspectorate's booklet A guide to taking part in planning appeals (Wales)
