TAN 1 - Joint Housing Land Availability Studies - 2006

This TAN provides guidance on the preparation, on a local planning authority basis, of Joint Housing Land Availability Studies. The purpose of these Studies is to monitor the 5-year supply of land for housing which local authorities should ensure is genuinely available or will become available, judged against the general objectives and the scale and location of development provided for in the Unitary Development plan.

Studies are prepared by study groups co-ordinated by the Land Division of the Welsh Development Agency. The groups also comprise representatives from the unitary authority, house-builders’, the Housing Directorate of the Welsh Assembly Government, statutory undertakers and other bodies as appropriate.

For national parks, the groups also include the national park itself and, where appropriate, more than one unitary authority. Regional groups are also allowed for. Ways of setting up housing land availability studies and methods of land supply calculation are explained.
